Hi, My understanding is that because of its popularity and Canadian ETF holding regulations, Van ECK had to rebalance the GDXJ in order to not have some underlying stocks in the ETF not to have holdings greater than 20% of holdings. As a result, some stocks will benefit from this, particularly mid-tier players; and other stocks may be dropped or reduced from the ETF. There are a number of articles out there if you are interested.
