Water is principally one of the most important substances on earth. As such plants and animals thus needs water for survival and if there is no water, there consequently be no life on earth. It is needed in all works of life such as domestic use, agriculture, recreation, cooling of machines(textile industries), generation of electricity etc.

As such water required for domestic use should be clean and free from contaminants by either germs, or chemicals. Polluted water causes diseases such as typhoid, cholera, diarrhea, etc. Portable water should always be treated before being distributed for use.

There are basically several sources of drinking water such as springs, streams, boreholes, rivers etc. So safe water here is that which doesn’t have any major risks to health over a long period of time of consumption including different sensitivities that may occur therein. However, the pressure on portable water continue to be on a steady increase especially in developing countries.
There is increased rates of deforestation especially around these areas where water take their rise, as such it reduces the amounts of water that gets in the reservoirs gradually over time. This means that, instead, tree planting should be encouraged around water catchments especially environmental friendly ones.
Also, farming and grazing activities around the areas should be equally discouraged because fertilizers, crop residues, cow dung etc will be easily carried by runoff and emptied into the catchments, maintenance of water pipe should often be done frequently so as to avoid spillage of water when pipes are bad. So let us strive in protecting our water sources at all cost.

water is indeed an essential part of man's survival but its really a shame to see how man's is destroying this important component of its survival.
