Shri Ramcharit Manas Balkand

The Balkand of Shri Ramcharit Manas is composed by Tulsidas and it is the first part of Ramayana. It contains the description of Lord Rama and the story of his childhood.

Surdas ji says that when Tulsidas ji translated this first part of Shri Ramcharit Manas, he did not find it very easy. That's why he has written in his poetry that he has only collected words, which are very easy for the whole world. He has worshiped Lord Ganesha at the beginning of his translation.

The birth of Lord Rama is described in Balkand. His father King Dasaratha had started a ritual of a yagya so that he would get four sons. In the yagya, Lord Brahma himself transformed it from nectar and gave it to the four brothers. Later Lord Vishnu appeared before him and asked him to accept him as his incarnation. King Dashrath was very pleased with this story and promised to raise him considering him as his son.

Stories of Lord Rama's childhood have been given in Balkand. In these, his sports-toys, his family and his friends have been told. Apart from this, there is also a description of Lord Rama's education by his Guru Vashishtha in Balkand. He explained to Ram the importance of religion, non-violence, truth and learning.
