Symbolism of the male and female beginnings - Erich From, Karen Horney

in #godflesh5 years ago (edited)

Men over the centuries have succeeded in creating the imprint of a stronger gender so they can explain why they have a superior role (since they are not a majority, but equality with women has once again had an argument). According to Form, despite the gradual deletion of the differences, the two genders should maintain their polarity in order to preserve the fertile dynamics. Still, From recognizes a particular peculiarity between male and female sex. This is the tendency to tenderness in the woman.

Since it is not purposeful, that is, tenderness has no purpose, it is not so inherent to the male sex. It goes into more detail on the polarity of man-woman in love. Opposing Freud's view that love is the expression of only sexual instinct. To him, this attraction is a need for love and reciprocity. Looking at love as a pain-relieving condition would mean identification and hunger that occurs when you are hungry or pruritus, and according to such a finding, ideal sexual satisfaction would find an outlet in onanism. Freud misses the important psycho-biological aspects of the desire for unity between the two sexes.

Karen Horney, unlike the others, is trying to understand by determining the gender differences. According to him, the act of the creation of Eve by Adam lowers the woman. The man is afraid of the sexual attractiveness of the woman, and in order to be able to satisfy her needs she must keep her in bondage. A man has to protect himself from her power by holding her in bondage (here are examples of many primitive cultures in which there is a taboo about the woman's sexuality and her mystical power to strike the man with strange practices, such as killing him if he sleeps with her during a cycle or keep him in captivity if you knit his legs with his while sleeping and other nymphs). The man and the woman are different, but that does not mean that some should dominate the other. According to him there are three reasons for the male's dominant behavior. The first one is anatomic-psychological - during the act the man entrusts his genitals to the female body and leaves his seed in it (part of his power is left in favor of fear).

The second is of an anatomo-ethnological character. The attitude toward the mother is associated with the fear of death, the one who gives the life it takes, the third motive comes from the world of animals where the need for sex in the male is greater and he must keep the female subordinate to be able to satisfy this need. These three motives can be highlighted as the basis for the great struggle for superiority, which makes the problem of gender one of the most important solutions to philosophical anthropology.
