Life and creativity of the romantic poet and philosopher Novalis /part 5/

in #godflesh6 years ago (edited)

Novalis's original intention is to write a philosophical lyrical novel consisting of two parts "Student" and "Nature". Using sometimes hermetically coded poetic language intended only for "devotees," he follows the miracles of the Master, who gladly performs the noble mission to overcome and combine the irresistible contradictions. For him, people can be stars, and stars - people. He behaves like a master of forces and phenomena in nature, as "devoted" to the life of plants, animals, clouds, and stones. The master has the power to find a deceased person he chooses and to resurrect him for life. He is a kind of sorcerer who manages freely with the infinite power of his "self," inspired by the "magical idealism" to which he portrays the fantasy of the human philosopher-charmer Fichte.

Pupils live in the atmosphere of witchcraft, illuminated occasionally by dazzling flashes, which soon disappear in the distant villages of the bells. The Master's preferred follower "has deep and dark blue eyes and white-like lily skin." One day he disappears, but the Master reassures others that he will return and "no longer needs lessons". One of the other, clumsy, incomprehensible, until the day when "radiant bliss" returns and shows "a strange shape stone" that provokes in everyone "the clear perception of a delightful world." The teacher and his disciples strive to discover the hidden truths that only intuition can bring them in the moments when the mercy of God is encouraged. In the second part, Novalis describes nature by recalling that during the Golden Age people were in closer contact with it. He tells the story of Zumbula and Little Rose, in which the moral lesson is that love rises above everything and becomes inaccessible to the one who seeks it. To understand nature, it must penetrate with all our fullness in us. In this endeavor, people have to indulge themselves only in the divine impulse that pushes them towards their own, because of the "intimate fusion" with the spiritual world of nature and with the harmony of this world with the whole, almost immediately emerges a way of thinking, thanks to which the most accurate can be understood the universe. Nature does not exist if the "Ego" does not plunge into it in order to unravel its mysteries, to enlighten it and extract the spirit that is hidden in it. The man who has not learned to rely on nature remains a blind man for life.

Novalis argues that only the poets, children overflowing with love, can, in their blissful moments, discover delightful things among the secrets of nature, and can communicate them with their own simplicity. At this place in the fragment a student sangs an "hymn in the glory of the water," the all-powerful element that pours love and brotherhood over the earth: "In the water we see not only the reflection of the sky, it means gentle rapprochement, while the unremitting desire wants to rise, the happy love loves to descend into the bottomless depth. This is the most impressive expression of the intimate essence of the poet Novalis, who, although not a pantheist and unconditional desire to blend with nature, discovers the spirit of nature in the process of self-examination, and glorifies the poetry that drives people to fuse in their urge to give love to others. A profound analysis of the particular lyrical nostalgia of romance Novalis makes the famous Hungarian literary historian and the critic Lukac, who writes in his article "The Romantic Life Philosophy: Novalis" that his danger was death. The own death and death of the souls of his soul. His life program could only read: in his poetry, to make the death that his life had to be rhymes; harmoniously associate your life as inviolable. To live in such a way that death seems only a key word and never ending something, the internal law and beauty of which does not require eternal fragmentation; to survive the death of his beloved, but so that the melody of pain never fails completely, so that the pain begins a new agitation, that his inevitable death remains deeply inwardly linked to that of his beloved and short life between the two deaths to be rich and full of experiences.
