About Dante and his "Divine comedy" / part 7/

in #godflesh6 years ago (edited)

In this song, Dante turns to one of the most important moral issues of Christianity, which is urgently raised by Renaissance scholars who worship deeply the ancient wise men. Baptism is truly necessary for salvation, but it is disgusting that all good people who lived before the imposition of Christianity have never heard of it, are doomed to suffering after the adoption of the new faith. Dante resolves the wounded problem by placing the Gentiles in Hell, but assigning them a painless stay in his Ancestor. The limb is not a place for a happy life, but within its borders it can easily meditate and contemplate among the "meadows of fresh and wide" and "charitable" castles.

Dante perceives the first sage with a congregation of wise philosophers surrounded. And everyone was happy to honor him ... The special honor Dante gives to Aristotle is not accidental, because in his epoch, the ancient Greek thinker is revered as the fool of the fountain, the fountain of wisdom. The scholastic tradition of theology and philosophy is remarkably strong in the Renaissance era, as it combines Aristotle's thought and Christian dogma. Late Medieval and Early Renaissance thinkers enjoy the inherited knowledge of the ancient world with deep respect. While most of them profess the Christian faith, no one can deny that all new cognitive systems draw their rationale from ancient thinkers. This is represented by Dante as being ruled by the blind forces of nature according to the thoughts of the Providence kingdom. The dark forces of matter are symbolized by monsters and evil spirits; of the demons. In the inferior circles, from the 2nd to the 5th, Dante has the wrongdoers who are guilty of insubordination, insubordination and frustration. In the lower circles, in the City of Dite, the poet "pits to torment" those who have sinned with evil intent. These are free-will-end people who deliberately ruined the established order of nature by obeying low, passionate and instinctive impulses. Underneath, they squeak in the barren deserted and darkness of the bloody bastards, who subjugated their intellect to a perverse intrusion into their core. Animal desires have devastated their souls and have vowed her to a virulent loneliness.

In the beginning of V song, Dante presents the legendary old man of Crete Minos, the son of Zeus and Europe, as a man who is doomed to be an eternal prey to his controversial misery. It is transformed by the poet into the image of the person who is destined to pursue a short eternal purpose - a place of honor in civilian life without realizing that the earth ruler is a colossus on clay feet. Such dullness results, according to Dante, from misfortunes, illusions, inevitable falls, and infinite pain. The bloody tears of such unfortunates have been poured for centuries in the valley of the Aheron, Stix, Flegeton, and Kocit, which swarm through the hell. In the second circle are the lovers, with souls conquered by the carnal passion, drawn by a constant, vertically oriented, vortex. In his grim boundaries, where Minos is screaming terribly, and a hell of a whirlwind that does not cease, the souls are drawn into their own blindness, those who have sinned "retreating to the fleshly desire" are struggling. Here are the legendary and terrible heroes who died of love: Semiramis, Cleopatra, Elena, Paris, Achilles, Didon, and Tristan, who succumbed to their passionate fleshly desires.
