In the epistle to the Romans written by Paul, the opposition between the desires of the flesh and the desires of the spirit in the plan of salvation is fundamental, by the flesh we are subject to sin and by the spirit to the beatitudes. The flesh gives rise to the natural man and the spirit to the spiritual man. But what does it mean to be a spiritual man?
Those who love God love the wisdom. Loving wisdom means being progressive, uplifting, righteous, benevolent, compassionate, in this consist to living according to the spirit. The apostle Paul remember to us in his letter to the Romans: "In all things God works for the good of those who love him", Romans 8:28.

Receiving the spirit means the inner passage from a life full of sin to a life of righteousness (Matthew 7:12): "You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ", Romans 8:9
Paul reminds to us that God in his understanding (spiritual gift of knowledge) establishes awards, prizes to the righteous and the uplifting people: "For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live", Romans 8:13
God provides, works through providence. Providence is a prudence that predestines men since the beginning of time: "For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified", Romans 8:29-30.
God not only works for the good of those who love him but also predestines them from eternity, in this consist the importance of hope, the hope is the security to inherit the eternal life, the full likeness (or conformity) to Jesus. Being saved means receiving eternal life, this is why is important the help of God, the eternal life is the "hidden treasure" (Matthew 13:44-46). The bliss and his providence predestines, helps, works for those who love him, to those who accept the spirit of God.
