Five Critical Elements For Creating a Highly Profitable Online Business

One of the questions I get asked most frequently when coaching people about starting an online business is; “How do I know what type of business to start?”

One of the mistakes people make when starting a business online, which goes completely against what many “gurus” will tell you is to; “follow your passion.”

Now don’t get me wrong.

Creating a business around your passion, is not necessarily a bad idea; however, it isn’t inherently good, just because it’s “your passion.”

Here are four critical elements to consider when starting your online business.

• Have a Great Niche

A niche is a topic which has a large enough number of people following it, that will allow for you to create a business around it. Usually, it’s recommended that you choose your niche and drill it down further into a sub-niche, making your target smaller than the overall niche.

Another mistake people make when they begin marketing is to attempt to appeal to an audience that is too wide. There are millions and millions of people online.

When you’re starting out, start with a smaller group that you can get to know and that can get to know you. You’ll find that you can get more out of a smaller list that knows and likes you, than a larger list that doesn’t fully relate to you.
Some of the top niches to consider are: Weight loss, Making Money Online, Survival, Fitness, Dating, Pets or Anti-aging. (just to name a few) Do some simple research online.

• Create Ongoing Payback

This is something that most people don’t consider when starting an online business, but let me ask you this.

How would you like to make a sale once and receive ongoing payments for possibly years to come? Of course you would.
There are a number of ways to do this. Create a product with a monthly continuity fee. Or have referral fees or override commissions. There are other ways, but you get the point.

Creating recurring income from a single sale may not be something you can do starting day one, but be sure it’s on your business plan radar.

• Minimum 10K

This is a MUST – I’m not interested in starting any business that doesn’t have the MINIMUM potential of $10,000 a month net income. (you may choose a different number, this is just mine)

And the truth is, it usually needs to have a MUCH higher potential, like 50K a month or more.

This goes back to knowing your niche.

Think of this it this way… If there’s a bunch of competition in your niche, it’s likely has that potential.

Now, you just need to figure out your angle to capture some of the profits. This is easier than you think. There are many ways to do this – it might even be as simple as your personality.

• Know Your Numbers

This is so important, right from day one.

You want to know whether whatever money you are spending on your campaigns (which might be $10 a day on Facebook) is bringing you returns.

One of the best aspects of Facebook and most of the tracking software you’ll use today is that they provide you with all sorts of insights and numbers that will help you propel and profit in your business. (Don’t worry, you don’t need technical skills for this!)

• Have a Mentor or Coach

Your coach will give you the benefit of their experiences so you don’t need to go through the same trials and errors most people do when starting a business.
