The Old Dog Asks: Is Gluttony Always a Bad Thing? Have You Hugged a Street Cleaner Today?

in #glutton7 years ago (edited)

Gluttony has long been thought of in a negative way. No wonder, take a look at how it's defined:

glutton: ˈ

  •  an excessively greedy eater.
  • synonyms: overeater, gorger, binge eater, big eater, pig, greedy pig, hog

Don't Let Pre-Conceived Notions Fool You!

A few days ago I had the pleasure of acting as tour guide to a young couple who were visiting me from Ontario, Canada. While exploring the city of Lugano they both marveled its cleanliness.

I'm sorry to say that this is not because there are no litter bugs in the area. The streets are regularly strewn with countless cigarette butts, jettisoned wrappers, and bits and scraps of every nature! All  disgusting, but that's a story for another day!

Lugano is clean because it is swept clean each and every day by a small crew of dedicated and unsung heroes. Since last year this crew has a new weapon and we should all be thrilled.

Not a speck of dirt to see anywhere in the city of Lugano thanks to this glutton! No not him, it!

Enter The Good Glutton That Should be Admired!

This super electric machine is small, nimble, almost silent and able to suck up virtually anything it "sees"! I watched the operator in amazement as he was able to extract butts and scraps from every nook and cranny along his cobbled route.

Years ago I'd seen a much less efficient and very noisy gas powered street vacuum but this thing takes it to another level!

The Street Cleaner was more than happy to give me a demonstration of how this Glutton works! Impressive!

Advantages of The Glutton

  • Greater efficiency for cleaning teams (Lugano is cleaner than ever with these things)
  • Environmentally friendly with the electric version being almost silent!
  • Removes more dirt than sweeping without causing airborne dust!
  • With its narrow width (0.75m), the Glutton can go more or less anywhere
  • 12 hours of autonomy in normal usage for the Glutton Electric
  • An ambidextrous suction pipe means no prejudice against left handers!
  • Designed for maximum user comfort
  • A flashing light and other safety lights ensure visibility
  • The suction strength enables the user to avoid any contact with refuse
  • Cleaning personnel are motivated and feel more valued in their work.

This Video is Actually Very Impressive!

The Street Cleaner That I Interviewed Today Was Thrilled!

While speaking with the man that I saw using the machine today he told me that it has made his job a lot easier and that he found it simple to use and very efficient. I told him what my tourist friend had said about Lugano being so clean and that I appreciate the great work that he is doing. He was grinning from ear to ear!

The next time that you see or hear the word glutton don't jump to conclusions, it might just be a very good thing!

What do You Think?

  • Are you impressed with this machine?
  • Are they in use where you live?
  • Would we even need them if people would stop littering?

This is the very first time I see this revolutionary machine, what a successful enterprise! Wow!!!

Thanks for sharing this information as I will be able to pass it along to people working for cities here and there. As the street cleaner you interviewed was such an excellent witness to the potential and power of this machine, I think we should let the cities of the world know about this product and market it to them a.s.a.p.!

Thanks again for this article and for giving gluttony a good name. Namaste :)

Yes it really is a nice machine but of course the really solution would be to stop throwing stuff on the ground! Blessing to you!

You bet!

Namaste :)

It is a very impressive machine and it's nice to know your local Lugano street cleaning team is keeping things sharp.

I haven't seen any of these machines in use but street cleaning machines aren't something that's always top-of-mind for me so the likelihood that I've seen one and didn't notice is fairly high given the fact that they are shipped to 40 or so countries and are used in many cities.

It seems like even if people stopped littering a machine like this would still be useful for natural, organic debris that would collect. Leaves always will fall from trees and the wind will blow them to where they build up and need removal. Perhaps the need would be less but I think the Glutton would still be in wide use.

@oldman28 mentioned automated street cleaners...Perhaps some exist already but if not maybe Glutton can marry their current model with the type of tech Husqvarna uses in their auto-mowers which are so popular here in Scandinavia:

What an interesting product this one is as well! As you say, the combo of both machine would be super powerful, thanks for sharing, namaste :)

Thanks for showing this to me and for your good idea.

WOW, that's a lovely tiny creature! I think most machines will embrace a smart technology to operate robotically over time. But for the time being, glutton seems to be a great option.

The video mentions that "80% of the devices are exported to 40 countries" - so it must be working, if so many people are trying to get their hands on one!

It is impressive that it can clean up such big stuff - a half full 2 liter bottle, that's nuts. This is strangely exciting to me. I think this is the way to keep a clean city - not to avoid the mess entirely, that's just impossible, but to have really powerful methods to proactively clean it up.

Even in human life, gluttony isn't so bad. I give myself every Saturday to just be a total glutton and eat all kinds of junk food.

Great comment and I need to give you a bonus for watching the video! I love your point about what you do Saturday!!!!

Amazing machine and suction power!!!!

Fabulous machine and video!!thanks for sharing...

It is pretty cool!

I guess the combination of Fart and Glutton keeps a good balance in the city ! One pollutes and one cleans hehe

Very funny! Thanks for the laugh!

Haha my pleasure :)

Actually this is surprising dear friend @ kus-knee, that good infrastructure that has the municipality, this is a great technological machine, this would come very well in my country, although the cleaning is a matter of culture, here after the steps of the collector are pulling trash.
excellent post dear friend, congratulations on the find.
I wish you a beautiful day.

Thanks for the visit. I agree that to a certain extent cleaning is matter of culture.

Fantastic machine! I'm really impressed with it, but here in my city they are not in use. We have some tiny car similar to this, but they don't clean the streets every day, just 2-3 times at week:

Thanks for showing me what is in use where you live!

On this machine is really a miracle! But we must give credit to the people who run this car, they are also doing a great job. And though correctly the Russian proverb "purely not where sweep, and where don't litter" but no cleaners on the streets all the same it would be messy.

Yes you are correct!

@kus-knee - oh my goodness, this is a good invention & very useful unit for cleaning matters. cleaners are doing a excellent job Sir. no one recognized it. Love your post Sir. Therefore, I wish to ReSteem your post.
