Winner announcement for the "Guess the dog breed" giveaway!
About a week ago I decided to host a mini-giveaway where anyone could enter by guessing the breed of the dog I am about to get. It's only a few more days until we can drive and pick her up, and it will be very exciting to have a puppy again, since it has been 6 years since the last time any of my dogs were puppies.
A lot of people entered, most trough comments, but some also sent encrypted messages to make their guess a secret. It's time to find out how many who guessed correctly, and who win the 5 Steem Blockchain Dollars.
The answer: It's a whippet
The correct dog breed is a whippet. This is a sighthound that originates from England, where they used to be a "poor man's greyhound". They do however have some benefits compared to the greyhound that made them a much better fit for me and my family, and the biggest one is that it's a very healthy breed that has little genetic diseases.
As I said in the contest post, it is not all that easy to guess the breed from the pictures alone, but a lot of people were really close, and lots of people guessed greyhounds (which look very much like whippets). However, only two people guessed correctly:
@aliraxa also mentioned whippet, but ultimately said that the guess was greyhound. So we only had two participants for the raffle!
As with every giveaway, the winner is selected by a Random Number Generator, and here's the result for this raffle:

Good luck, the pup is gorgeous and whippets, like greyhounds make fantastic pets. They are so docile and loving but when they run..their speed is unbelievable.
I once found a stray brindle greyhound many years ago but sadly she was very ill and didnt live long. Possibly the reason she'd been dumped.

Thanks! Their relaxed and docile nature is one of the reasons why we wanted this breed, and it will surely be a big contrast to the sheepdog we also have.
I'm seriously mad when I hear that people dump their dogs or other pets like that! I'm glad to hear that you took it in instead of letting it die in the streets.
There is a big problem here with ex greyhound racers, god knows what hsppens to half of them if they dont win races. Luckily its not quite as popular a sport these days so the problem of retired dogs isnt as bad but there are still a number of charities dedicated just to homing greyhounds. Many years ago there was whippet racing too but I dont think there is any more. You have greyhound racing there ?
Oh, I didn't even think of that. We don't have much racing here, since it's illegal to bet money on them. So the greyhound and whippet racing is pretty much just done by the dog community for fun. Luckily we have very little problems with people abandoning dogs here in Norway, but that might be because purebreds tend to cost $2,000+. We have a huge problem with people who abandon cats though!

Yes, it sure is. It can be really difficult to tell them apart unless you see them in real life, because the easiest way is to look at their size.
