This post is my review of the outreach carried out by the Girls Foundation (@girlsfoundation) on the 13th of June 2018. The report can be found here GIRLS FOUNDATION OUTREACH - To enlighten ladies

Introduction

“Helping one person might not change the world, but it could change the world for one person.” Anonymous

The Girls Foundation is an initiative set up by young proactive ladies with a firm belief in the transforming power of the girl-child. Their goal is to reach out to young ladies and help them in identifying and harnessing their numerous life-changing potentials. It is currently managed by a team of three ladies led by @faetee.

They have the following as their vision:

  1. Youth enlightenment
  2. Curbing the menace of rape
  3. Fight against domestic violence
  4. Girl-child education

They have received support from kind individuals and communities on Steemit including @dollaraday, @fundition, @wafrica and @surfyogi

The Outreach was held in a Secondary School on the 13th of June 2018. The intended participants were female secondary school students. The team arrived much earlier to ensure all activities went as planned.

Upon their arrival, they met with some of the teachers and introduced Steemit and the Steem Blockchain to as many that were interested. Soon it was 11am and they began the days activities.

The outreach featured a brief introduction of the Girls Foundation, its goals and objectives and its activities. This introduction was carried out by @faetee who also delivered the first lecture on norms and values. @meemee followed up with a short story and then rounded up the lectures. There was a question and answer section handled by @faetee, @meemee and @crystalll. The session ended the presentation of gifts.

My Review

It is common place to find individuals who claim to be selfless. However, the truth of this is found, not in the words, but in the actions. The Girls Foundation have proven themselves to be ladies of their words. While researching for this review, I went through their Steemit blog and was impressed with their remarkable results. With less than three months in existence, these ladies have distinguished themselves as selfless individuals who genuinely believe in the feminine power. As such, it is not surprising to find other selfless individuals like @surfyogi throwing their weight behind this laudable project.

The outreach is a classic example of their commitment and drive. From the proper planning, to proper documentation and then the success of the outreach, these ladies deserve some accolades. Although I was not present at the outreach, the reports indicates that the outreach must have been of tremendous benefits to the students. I can imagine that important issues were raised and practical insights were given to the students to help them live up to their full potentials.

I am particularly pleased because, as a Nigerian, I am well aware of the bad reputation Africans, and Nigerians in particular, have earned themselves in the eyes of the western world. However, the actions of these ladies under the auspices of the Girls Foundation is a great cause for hope in reforming the bad reputation.

Conclusion

In all, the Girls Foundation is a laudable project. I expect to see even more successful results.

Blessings
