We found this monster on the ceiling of our bedroom.
I remember my younger brother grabbing a katydid off of the screen door when we were children. He screamed an hopped around shaking his hand when it chopped down on his finger.
Look at those mandibles, I would not want to have that thing biting me.

When we were kids, we'd catch grasshoppers and feed them. They'll eat literally anything you put to their mouth, even each other.
That is twisted.
I knew a guy who had a pet praying mantis that ate goldfish.
This katydid came in through a screen door I had propped open to lead an extension cord outside. I released him outside after a brief interrogation under a bright light.
