This is our home; Africa!

The continent blessed with all natural resources compared to others. Its basic necessity should not be the lack of food, medication and jobs for its inhabitants.

We have 54 countries implying 54 Heads of States (not counting their Ministers nor members of parliament) cannot over the years end our misery once and for all.

According to the U.N, Africa has a very small proportion of young leaders between 35 and 55. Paradoxically, the continent has the youngest population in the world, with a median age of 19.5. (CNN, 2015)

Why then are our leaders so old? Where are the youth?

The youth as priority.

THE ACTUAL PROBLEM

Franklin D. Roosevelt once said; “We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future”

If the youth truly forms the majority, then the focus should be youth empowerment. But this has entirely been left to motivational speakers. The government is busy building infrastructure, constructing roads and the like while the human resource lays unexploited.

I marvel anytime I hear them say “the youth are the future leaders”. What about now?

Everything seems to be falling right in place as I write, the richest continent has been blessed with youngest population in the world. What does that suggest to you? We are destined for greatness!

The Holy Bible in Ecclesiastes 12:1 says; “Remember your Creator in the days of your YOUTH…” NIV

God certainly has love for all age groups but he places much demand on the youth. Why? The youth;

possess the most energy
are purpose driven
much more enthusiastic
adventurous
able to take more risk
When God is interested in the youth serving him now, our leaders are thinking about the future when age is nothing to joke with. Do you still doubt why most African leaders are very old?

Youth Arise! !
WAY FORWARD

Every single day is another opportunity for us to make things right. We the youth must identify ourselves with Bernardo Bertolucci when he said “I remember being young in the 1960s…we had great sense of the future, a great big hope. This is what is missing in the youth today. This being able to dream and to change the world “
Let’s continue the vision of our leaders toward a better Africa. We need to brighten the corners we find ourselves. Never give up starting or supporting a good course.

The duty of the youth according to Kurt Cobain is to challenge corruption. That’s exactly what we must do!
But can that be spoken of us while most of us have already soiled our hands with the already skyrocketing episodes of corruption?

Our leaders should give the youth the opportunity. Why can’t it be compulsory to have a youth parliament in every of these 54 countries in Africa and Government working hand in hand with the youth.
Africa will work again.
