Making Exercise Fun Again

paddlin'

Another weekend down, and more memories in the bank. I got to go paddleboarding for the first time, and I gotta say, it was pretty great. Between being a peaceful time on the lake, and pushing it to see how fast I could go without falling -- paddleboarding is definitely for me.

The beauty of exercise truly comes around when you no longer feel like you're exercising. You've gotta make it fun and keep it fresh, lest it get stale. Part of this, I truly believe, happens when you #getoutside. Nothing breaks me down faster than running on a treadmill. I tolerate climbing indoors, but only so I can conquer the granite when the weather clears up.

Part of the beauty of getting outside to do these things, is experiencing the impressive, awe inspiring landscapes that you might not get to see otherwise. While there is immediate satisfaction in completing a climb -- the best part is often the journey to the crag, and the collection of memories you make along the way. I think that's even often how these routes get their funky names (51 Hotdogs, Mohawks on Belay, Skywalker, Bulldog, and many many more).

Getting High at Horne Lake

So what do you think? Can you start making time for yourself? Do you think it's worth it? Or are you more of a city-person?

There's nothing wrong with anything, so long as you do what makes you happy, and you do it without hurting others. Life is too short to spend it working for your entire life -- and that only makes it shorter. Stress is no good.

@caitycat and myself are heading to Kelowna in a week to begin the conversion process for our van. The intent is to make it an extension of home -- and to stop spending so many Fridays and Saturdays sitting on the couch (without completely abandoning the luxuries of soft beds, shelter, and a place for the aging pups to be warm).

Tell me about your upcoming plans for camping / exercising / expeditioning / getting the FUCK out of your day-to-day.

Tomorrow, I'm leading a session at work where we talk about how to implement AI / Advanced Technology at work. I'm hoping this leads to me delegating tasks to robots, and I can spend more time with the people I love, at the places that are special to me. I hope you can do something similar.

Lovely post. You're right. Gotta get out and enjoy this planet while we still have it.

Someone's gotta do it. Everyone else is too busy lining up to buy the next iPhone.
