Getafe punished for racism
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Disciplinary Committee has fined Getafe club 27,000 euros and imposed a partial closure of their stadium for three matches.

The RFEF Disciplinary Committee announced the penalties for Getafe club due to racist chants targeting Sevilla player Marcos Acuna and coach Quique Sanchez Flores during the Getafe-Sevilla match in the 30th round of La Liga.

The committee revealed the sanctions against Getafe for the racist chants directed at Acuna with "monkey" remarks in the 68th minute of the match and towards Getafe coach Flores with "gypsy" remarks at the end of the game.

In addition to the fine and stadium closure, the committee demanded the publication of a message condemning racist, xenophobic, and intolerant actions and behaviors.

The Spanish press interpreted the RFEF's actions against racism in football as "exemplary punishment," asserting that future measures against racism on the pitch would be more resolute and severe.

The Spanish press further emphasized that the RFEF's interpretation of the punishments as "exemplary" underscored the federation's firm stance against discriminatory behaviors, reaffirming its commitment to the universal values of sport and the necessity to protect these values. Additionally, it stressed that football is more than just a game and, as a societal platform, intolerance such as racism cannot be tolerated, emphasizing the importance of tolerance and respect in society.
