USA says it will leave Syria after defeating ISIS, but actions show opposite

in #geopolitics7 years ago

The US will NOT stay in Syria after defeating ISIS.

That's according to Heather Nauert, spokeswoman of the US Department of State. Nauert told the media in a press briefing on Friday that "Syria must be governed by its own people and not by the United States or other forces." [1]

However, the actions the US has taken in Syria make us believe there are other forces at work who would like to see the opposite. It has already been well documented how the US government funded, trained and supplied Al Qaeda (out of which ISIS emerged later) and the Free Syrian Army, both islamic extremist groups. [2] Over the years both the Pentagon and the CIA supported various jihadist groups, which even ended up in those groups fighting each other.

Moreover, the US government does not seem to be fond of other groups fighting ISIS. In multiple occasions it has denounced the presence of Russian and Iranian military personnel, while allowing military advisors in Syria from countries that have a history of supporting jihadism, such as Israel, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

There is a possibility that the US government is out for regime change in Syria as well. The country was one of the infamous '7 countries in 5 years' that would be overthrown after 9/11. The US has consistently denounced the Syrian government's actions and even accused "the Assad regime" of commiting chemical attacks against its on citizens. This claim, however, does not hold any credibility despite of the mainstream media and Western governments assuming it does. There is no clear evidence for who commited those crimes, but there is evidence that it probably wasn't the Syrian government. [3] [4]

Just now, reports are coming in from the US/NATO coalition bombing Syrian Army positions near Ar-Raqqa. [5] Since there are no Kurdish forces near the location of the bombing, it could only be a place where ISIS is being fought. This isn't the first time the US/NATO coalition attacks the Syrian Army and allows ISIS to take back territory. The US has been more preoccupied with causing tension with other states than with actually fighting ISIS, while Russia destroyed over 700 jihadist positions in the last week only. [6]

Lastly, the US is de facto occupying Syrian territory, especially in the North, where they have partnered up with Kurdish forces. It seems like the plans for redrawing the Middle East are still on the agenda. Those plans were presented by Lieutenant-Colonel Ralph Peters of the US Armed Forces and published in the Armed Forces Journal in June 2006.

In conclusion, it does not look like the US is telling the truth about their plans in Syria. It rather seems like they are in Syria to break up the current Syrian nation-state instead of defeating ISIS.

What is your opinion on this? Is the US government lying to the public? Or are there multiple forces at play here? I would love to hear your take on the issue.

This should brighten up everyone's Saturday:

Russia destroyed 700+ terrorist positions in Syria over the last week alone.

Thank you Putin.

Exactly my thoughts to a certain extend; it's the same story, just a different setting/environment. I guess we just have to find out. Good read bro, the footnotes gives it the extra backed up knowledge/facts for readers , good one!

Thanks man!
