The Modern Gentleman

As much as most men like to think of themselves as gentlemen, a true gentleman is rare and the gentleman race is dying out. Most men understand the word ‘gentleman’ to mean someone spineless and foolish and most ladies like to take the so-called ‘gentleman’ for a ride. Before I am tempted to agree or disagree I would like to take us back to the Victorian era and those who don’t read must have at least, watched movies relating to this period and so bear my imagination as I paint the picture of a gentleman: One in shirt-tails, a powdered face and wig (Oh, Sorry it was the manners I wanted to describe so bear with me again); one who doesn’t curse in front of ladies, pays compliments to the woman even if it is contrary to his feelings knowing fully well that he is not going to bed with them, helps a lady down from the horse or cart, talks about that wouldn’t bore the lady to death. Need I to go on? Transcribing that to our times now would be a man that doesn’t feel he needs to use the ‘f’ word just to show that he is indeed happening, a man that doesn’t pay compliments to get women to sleep with him, a man that takes responsibility for his actions and better still a man that communicates his thoughts and acts on his words, a man whose word is his pride. Imagine this particular man infused with a godly life and I know may of you will say yuck! Life is what you make of it and even though someone claims to have seen your future, in which you are a no-good, remember that your decisions shape your future and instead of following the crowd mentality, remember that the crowd envies a unique being! The courage to be unique is forged by a strength that comes from within, the courage to take a stand even when the crowd is booing at you!
