The female body is said to be an embodiment of secrets but today we will be exploring one of the most interesting part of the female body and thats the organ that has made her of a unique importance in the propagation of the human race and the world at large.

Puberty is the time when the body becomes sexually capable of producing fertile gametes and manifesting adult behaviors. Which simply is the time when the gonads begins to produce sex hormones and viable cells capable for normal reproduction.
Now, lets look at the female comparative anatomy. I would to my best ability make this description as relatable as possible to those who have no scientific background.

Basically the female reproductive system can be divided into 2:

The internal genitalia:

  1. Ovaries
  2. Oviducts
  3. Uterus
  4. Cervix
  5. Vagina 😁

The external genitalia:

  1. Vulva

The Internal Genitalia

  • The ovaries are the primary sex organs because they produce the female gametes and hormones. It is suspended in the abdominal cavity by the mesovarium ligament (thats what holds it up in place).

  • The oviduct which popularly called the Fallopian tube is a paired structure that connects the ovary to the uterus and it is also suspended by the mesosalpinx.
The oviduct can be divided into 3 segments:

  • The infundibulum which is the funnel shaped end that opens up into the abdominal cavity. The fimbriae attaches at one point to the ovary to ensure close approximation.
  • The Ampulla which forms about half the oviduct's length at the upper portion is the site where fertilization takes place. It is joined to the isthmus at the Ampulla-isthmic junction.
  • The Isthmus connects at the other end to the uterus at the utero-tubal junction.
  • The Uterus popularly called the womb which compromise of the horn (cornua), the body (fundus) and the neck (cervix). It is connected to the abdominal wall by the mesometrium through which it receives blood and nerve supply.
The shape of the uterine horn and type of uterus varies among different species but in human it is a simplex uterus which has one cervix, prominent uterine body and associated with single births.
The Uterus is for sperm transport (it contracts to propel sperm towards the egg) and sperm capacitation.
It is also a suitable environment for implantation and nourishment of the embryo. This is what actually expands to accommodate the growing foetus/baby.

  • The cervix is the entrance to the uterus and it serves as the site of sperm deposition and reservoir. It also helps in selecting viable sperm cells by restricting the weak ones.

  • The vagina which is demarcated by the cervix and utheral opening produces vaginal fluid which is made up of transudate from the vaginal wall, oviductal fluid, exfoliated vaginal epithelial cells and vulvar secretions. It is the organ for copulation i.e. Sex.
The vagina is elastic and a muscular canal that has a soft and flexible lining or wall that provides lubrication and sexual sensation. It is the opening that connects the internal genitalia to the external.

I found these vagina facts and you can check out all of them later. Here are some i like:

  1. Your vagina can actually double in size when you're turned on
  2. Your clitoris can actually get a boner when you're turned on.
  3. It's self-cleaning.
  4. It's teeming with bacteria. Don't get grossed out — they're the kind that keep bad microorganisms in check so you don't get an infection.

The External Genitalia

The external genitalia is at large called the vulva and all these are comprised to form the vulva:

  • Vestibule
  • Labia majora
  • Labia minora
  • Clitoris
I'd love to say a little about the clitoris that i found here.

The clitoris and penis are the same materials assembled in a different way. The clitoris has glans, a foreskin (also known as the hood), erectile tissue and a very small shaft — all the parts that a penis has. It even swells when it's aroused.

I trust this was an educating and helpful post, thanks to my little knowledge and jotings.
