Don't wait for prosperity to become generous

in #generosity6 years ago

With twenty-five year experience I spent in the ministry, I know a lot of people's giving patterns and attitudes about money. One of the point many keep lay emphasis on is that if they ever a lot of money and that would probably made them generous. People who alter such statement are usually fooling themselves.

All I want them to be aware of is that person's level of income and desires to give out doesn't have nothing to do with each other. Most of the generous people I know have nothing materially and I am aware of many people who have a lot to give but have no sympathy heart to do so. Statistics bear that out.

The average personal income in the popular state of Mississippi Is the second lowest in the United State ranked by state and yet the state was ranked sixth position in giving charity. In distinguish, New Hampshire is ranked sixth in an average personal income and do you know where they are position in the charitable giving as a percentage of income they are at number 45.

Allow me to say this to the general public that prosperity and high income doesn't help people to become generous. Even, the novelist Harriet Beecher Stowe his brother Henry Ward Beecher warned that they could possibly make people less like to give out. He said; watch lest prosperity destroy generosity.

People living in the United State live in the most prosperous country in the world at the most prosperous time in its history that you can never imagine And still they don't give much. 2.5% of our income today goes to charity giving. And that was lower to what it used to be of 2.9% during the Great Depression. And also 80% of citizens of American who earn at least $1million yearly don't leave a single penny to charity in their wills.

People don't give from the top of their purse but from the bottom of their hearts. If you have the desire to become generous person, you don't have to wait till your income will change or be much. It only deals with change of your heart. When you do that, and you can become a giver regardless of your Income or the present circumstances you are.

Sort:

Generosity is a thing of the heart. It has nothing to do with level of income. People who don't give when they earn little will find it even more difficult to give with an increased income.

We don't give out of abundance, we give because we see it as a duty to give back to our society and those in need
