Small Step for Gender Equity in Law

Goodbye to ‘Honeys’ in Court, by Vote of American Bar Association

I came across this article in my daily search for legal news. It immediately caught my attention. Over the years, I personally have witnessed many female colleagues suffer from discrimination. This is expressed in a range ways - from men deliberately ignoring the suggestions of experienced female peers in meetings to making flat-out ignorant remarks. For example, one 40-ish male attorney asked his Latina female seat-mate for her LSAT score and GPA and wondered aloud whether she got admitted to an Ivy League because of some "Mexican" scholarship. The most outrageous public example from 2015 is this: http://abovethelaw.com/2015/06/breastfeeding-is-against-the-law-in-this-judges-courtroom/ Although some may deride this prohibition as nominal or superficial, it encourages a culture of greater gender equity in the legal field. That's worth celebrating.
