Night walk (caminata nocturna)

A few days ago I was at my brother's house, tired, at night and annoyed. After a few hours without light, we wanted to walk for a while to see if the light had just gone out in our area, or if it had gone further. The truth is that I feel that we are only looking for the silliest excuse to go for a walk and thus be able to go out with a clear conscience, thinking that we were doing something good instead of just killing leisure in one of the most dangerous ways that exist.

Hace unos días estaba en casa de mi hermano, cansado, de noche y fastidiado. Tras unas cuantas horas sin luz, quisimos caminar un rato para ver si se había ido la luz por nuestra zona nada más, o si se había ido más allá. La verdad siento que solo buscamos la excusa más tonta para salir a caminar y así poder salir con la conciencia limpia, pensando que estábamos haciendo algo bueno en vez de solo estar matando el ocio de una de las formas más peligrosas que existen.

We both got dressed and went out. Willing to break the quarantine to see the dark streets and feel the pleasure of doing something wrong, which was also linked to the feeling of uncertainty remains the night. I have always liked walking at night, and much more when there is no light. When there is no light, the starry sky becomes something incredible to see, almost even surreal of how beautiful and abysmal it seems, it is as if we lived in a Truman show where the stars are nothing but lights that someone turns on to brighten up the night, since seriously it looks so perfect that, at times, I find it hard to believe that I am alive.

Los dos nos vestimos y salimos. Dispuestos a romper la cuarentena para ver las calles oscuras y sentir ese placer de estar haciendo algo malo, que también estaba ligado al sentimiento de incertidumbre queda la noche. Caminar de noche siempre me ha gustado, y mucho más cuando no hay luz. Cuando no hay luz, el cielo estrellado se vuelve algo increíble de ver, casi hasta surreal de lo hermoso y abismal que parece, es como si viviésemos en un show de Truman donde las estrellas no son más que luces que alguien prende para alegrarnos la noche, ya que en serio se ve tan perfecto que, a mí, me cuesta mucho a veces creer que estoy vivo.

We walked a little and came to the avenue, a dark avenue that was dimly lit by a service station that was about two blocks away. I walked until I crossed the avenue, I walked slowly and I enjoyed every step I took in the street of that empty and silent avenue. From the other side of the street you could see how the cats illuminated the service station, an illumination that was once again lost darkness on the horizon, as if little by little the light was fading to fall again into that hole of dark uncertainty. We were there for a while, looking at the stars, sitting in the middle of the street and talking; when we were bored we returned to the house, but the feeling and the memory will live with me forever.

Caminamos un poco y llegamos a la avenida, una avenida oscura que era poco iluminada por una estación de servicio que estaba a unas dos cuadras. Yo caminé hasta cruzar la avenida, caminé lento y disfrute cada paso que di en la calle de esa avenida vacía y silenciosa. Desde el otro lado de la calle se podía ver como los fatos iluminaban la estación de servicio, una iluminación que pasaba a ser otra vez oscuridad perdida en el horizonte, como si poco a poco la luz se fuese desvaneciendo para caer otra vez en ese hueco de oscura incertidumbre. Estuvimos ahí un rato, viendo las estrellas, sentados en el medio de la calle y hablando; cuando nos aburrimos nos devolvimos a la casa, pero la sensación y el recuerdo vivirá conmigo por siempre.
