Pushkin and Kurmangazy 69
Discrimination and homophobia are pretty unpleasant things. But very often humor and laughs are the best armor against them because xenophobia is stupid. Today I will share with you an amazing story of stupidity!!
Look at this poster. It pictures famous Kazakh and Russian poets Qurmangazy and Pushkin in a passionate kiss. It was made by employees of Havas Worldwide Kazakhstan for open call of a nightclub called Studio 69.
I simply love this poster. Because the idea is great. The poster promotes a gay club Studio 69 which is located at the intersection of Kurmangazy and Pushkin streets, Almaty, Kazakhstan. I believe the artists who made this are very brave and for sure are very talented. After all, they took a 3d place in the competition for the best poster.
But the juicy part of the story is only coming...The artists of this poster were sued and had to pay 314 000 tenges (around 800 euro) for insulted feelings and for moral damage of nation. Studio 69 which is known as gay club refused any connection with the poster, saying that nightclub is not positioned as a gay club, it is just opened for everyone. Havas Worldwide Kazakhstan also didn't support employees very much just trying to calm down the situation and get rid of unwanted attention.
It all sounds like a total bullshit. But it is so absurd that you can't be angry or upset, all we can do is laugh in this situation.
