We grow hundreds of medicinal and edible plants at the Garden of Eden. They are accessible, cheap, and/or free options for your own wellness, without the MANY dangers pharmaceuticals impose. Every aspect of life is better when you feel healthy and happy, and we seek to reconnect you to your roots and remind you of these options for your health. 

Allow us to share the blessings of nature and introduce you to one of the marvelous new plants we have added to our GOE Seed Bank:

BEETS are delicious and nutritious root vegetables with lots of manganese, potassium, copper, fiber, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, vitamin C, vitamin B6, and powerful health-enhancing pigments. They are known to lower blood pressure, aid detoxification, fight inflammation, and counter cancer! 

Beet roots grow as a bulb underground, but even the greens that rise up from the dirt are edible and nutritious.

It is best to plant beets in spring or late summer, because they thrive in the cool weather of fall and spring. Plant seeds directly in the ground, 1-2 inches apart in rows. They like slightly acidic soil. They do well in full sun, but will still grow nice greens in partial shade. Mulch them with straw, grass clippings, or leaves to help them retain moisture.   

Beets are recommended for growing in zones 2-10.

Beets grow well with some space between them, but you can thin a row and use the greens for salad throughout the season. Harvest greens when they are 6 inches or less; harvest the roots by pulling from the ground. Leave a few inches of the stalks on the top to prevent "bleeding".
