Garden Journal 2018 Mindanao Homestead
Fun monthly Journal by @simplymike.
I am out traveling the Visayan Islands and not at my home at this time to be able to take some photos of the garden. My wife @ronafe went out and snapped a few shots and sent them to me.
We are already growing so many things, but I also started a new garden to see if I could get strawberries to grow and I also added cucumbers, sweet peas, watermelon, bunching onions and corn. And also the mystery potato that my pastor friend in the mountains gave me. It may be common somewhere, but I have never come across it. If some recognizes what I am growing by the leaf, I would appreciate your input. This “potato” grows to the size of a 🏀 basketball.
We are growing coconut, Marang, many varieties of bananas, avocado, citrus, a few varieties of mangos.

So I started the new garden plot and it was basically so I could grow strawberries. I have not found strawberries in the market except for one time and they wanted $20 US or 1000 pesos for a very small amount of, not very good looking berries.
I had to dig the garden by hand as we have not yet found a motorized tiller. Perhaps one day I will get a caribou or water buffalo for tilling the ground. I also had to construct a fence around the garden as we have many goats that we allow to roam the property.
I started the plants in these pots.
Then as they grew, I transferred them to the garden.
And the original reason for the garden. Strawberries!
And my mystery potato or possibly radish.
What we are already growing and some harvest.
And some flowers.
Camote or sweet potatoes
Camote cahoy or cassava
Thank you for checking out my garden spot!

Wow very lovely 😍
Thank you!
you're doing great sir! you can really have good food by yourself...without buying them from the market as some goods there are not fresh anymore..❤❤❤
Plus some to give away to the poor. Thank you for your comments!
Thanks for showing me and all others around in your garden, even though you’re not there yourself.
I was completely stunned by the price for strawberries you mention... I do hope you manage to grow them yourself. So far, it’s looking good :0)
Thank you! I have not had a strawberry in 4 years of being here. Can’t wait to experience the taste again.
You seem to have everything you needed. That is a really bountiful garden you have there. This makes me want to do a garden/plant post as well :D
