Well, the fruit that is {grin}. I have this passion fruit bush (also known as granadilla bush) which has been providing us with tens of kilograms of granadillas for the last five years.

As can be seen, this drought is taking it’s toll on the plant and it seems to be dropping it’s fruit earlier than usual

The passion fruit is so called because it is one of the many species of passion flower, leading to the English translation of the Latin genus name, Passiflora.[1] Around 1700, the name was given by missionaries in Brazil as an educational aid while trying to convert the indigenous inhabitants to Christianity; its name was flor de las cinco lagas or "flower of the five wounds" to illustrate the crucifixion of Christ, with other plant components also named after an emblem in the Passion of Jesus.[5]

This is a single mornings haul and does not include those which fall outside the property. Those we leave for passerby’s to enjoy

The tree’s outside the property had passion fruits hanging in them as the plant took over

We eventually decided to cut the plant out the tree as the tree was struggling.

Due to the extremely high temperatures we have been experiencing these past few months the fruit is nice and sweet. We use the pulp in plain yoghurt, mixed with soda water and ice as a cordial, frozen in ice trays to add to smoothies and also in fridge tarts, pastries etcetera.

My favorite use is definitely over luxurious vanilla ice cream whilst settling down with a good book.

As always, unless specified otherwise the photographs are all mine. Thanks for stopping by and reading.

Love passion fruit. It is super easy to grow here in the tropics!
