100 DAYS FARMING: We Reap What We Plant

in #gardening8 years ago

In my place, territory that includes paddy agriculture (especially rice farmers) almost meets all the geographic scope of Aceh. The tropical climate has made some of the Acehnese people struggling in the world of agriculture.

Here, there are two kinds of paddy fields which are usually used as a place to sow rice, which are:

  • Rice Paddy Fields
This is a agricultural land that formed the square bounded by a dike (some sort of plot line with the size of half a meter), this meant that there was separation between the fields belonging to a person and property of others.

  • Paddy Garden
Paddy is grown in the most unusual places. Usually paddy fields planted in the garden, or in areas with other plants. This type of rice is not common we find, because it has not had a high value of efficiency's.

A few months ago, and until now, I actively accompany my friend who works at the distribution of fertilizers pesticides to farmers, and he visited the same area of the first rice is planted until the harvest stage. I have summarized all the information related to the world of rice farming in the region.

In the past, people in my place have to wait for the rainy season to be farmed, and the results are harvests for two times in one year. Since the dam and irrigation provided by the government which functions as a media of irrigation, this time paddy farmers have been able to go to the field and make harvest three times for 1 year.

Here I provide some pictures I have taken when rice is planted until harvest. Take as long as 100 days. Although not full time I visit, but step by step the work of paddy farmers can be enjoyed in my documentation.

After the rice seeds soaked for a few days, so that the sprouts appear, the farmer took it to a small paddy field. (the fields specifically for breeding). Planted with the position of tight and doesn't take a long time, just one week, until the rice straw size into one cubits.

Sprouts rice prepared in the bond, so easy to carry. 1 bunch contains 20 rice sprouts

The workers are villagers gathered from several villages, then hired to plant the seed rice that has been provided. Usually, many of whom are housewives who are looking for wages.

Paddy is already tied-belt is then brought to a wider land, because at first seedlings were planted simultaneously with a short distance to get the rice sprouts which already has buds. This is called as a Vegetative Stage.

After planting, the rice begins to grow, green leaves are still visible at a young age.

After 40 days, the paddy fields that was planted is starting to look more and fertile, farmers only need good care. For example, to clear the land of trash, keep it from pests and diseases.

This is the stage of spraying, as part of efforts to maintain the rice from pests and diseases. The amount of pesticides circulating here is varied, there are many types that can be used for the spraying of rice land.

The stalks has released rices, and fruits young age, I shoot when rice aged 50-60 days.

Rice has seen yellowing at the age of 80-90 days, just wait a few more weeks to be able to harvest. This is called a Reproductive Stage.

Rice has aged over 100 days, as usual, the farmers collect workers from several villages to crop and bring the rice to the rice field, dry place. Then threshed paddy using traditional threshing machine.

The workers were cutting rice in the traditional way without the mowers, although in some other areas currently in harvest rice paddy using an automatic cutting machine. (the modern way). This is then called a Generative Stage.

Rice was threshed then put into sacks, some stored for consumption, partly sold as a form of providing funds to the agricultural implementation of the first stage to be completed.

Farmers raise rice yields into a pickup for sale to the container.
