Bee Balm, A Flower & Medicinal Herb

in #gardening7 years ago

Many people have heard of bee balm even though they have not necessarily heard of that name. It is very interesting to grow this plant, especially if you are a gardener and it is not difficult to grow it.

Balsam of bees is a reference to plants of the genus Monarda, instead of a species, but the species Monarda didyma is representative. This plant has several names; Bee balm, horsemint, mountain mint, Monarda tea, bergamot, and Oswego.

This herb is a perennial herb and, as some common names indicate, it is part of the mint family. Plants have a square stem-like other types of mint and, like other ticks, bee balsam has some very useful medicinal uses.

In ideal conditions, plants can grow up to five feet in height, although generally two feet tall with thick growth. There are different varieties and the flowers vary from pale pink to red to purple.

The flowers strike and appear above all in the middle of summer, until the autumn. The flowers are also very attractive for hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees, as their common name suggests. This is good news for gardeners, as it attracts the most important pollinators.

Native Americans use bees balm for a long time. Balsam is a strong antiseptic and is used for cuts, scratches, bites and insect bites. Bee stings are also interesting. Tea is also used for a sore throat, fever, fluid retention, gingivitis, toothache, skin ulcers, blisters, stomach upset, gastric gas and flatulence. The herb can also refresh your breath.

Tea is prepared by placing one or two tablespoons of fresh grass leaves in a tea ball and placing in a cup of warm, covered water for 10 minutes. Like the thyme, which is another type of mint, the active ingredient of the balsam of the bees is the thymol. Honey can be used to soften tea. The taste is a bit like a mixture of mint and mint.

Note: Bergamot oil does not come from bee balm, although a common name for the bee balsam is bergamot. Bergamot oil comes from another plant called Bergamot Orange, also used to finish Earl Gray tea.

Bee balm grows on most land. He prefers the land, which remains wet. He also likes the sun, but he also likes to have some shade, especially in the hottest time of the day.

Plants are resistant so long as they receive a lot of water and do not need strong fertilization. This herb grows well in the ordinary soil of the garden.

Bee balm can be grown from seed. However, germination is slow. An easy way to do this is to grow plants with cuttings that are put into the water until they take root. The roots of the bee balsam are almost as light as mint.

Alternatively, root cuts can be used to establish new plants. Harvesting can be done every time the plant grows, simply by removing the leaves. The plant simply produces more leaves. In fact, the tearing of the tips of the growing stems promotes thick growth.

Bee balm can be dried, as well as thyme, mint, mint, basil, thyme, sage and other types of ticks. As with all this, dry grass is not as potent and tasty as fresh grass. Much of the thymol is lost during the drying process, especially when using heat to dry the grass.

Note: it is not advisable to dry the herbs with heat or the sun. In this way, the essential oils that give the orange its aroma, its taste and its medicinal value are removed.

Bee balm has a nice place in every garden, and since it can easily be grown in pots like other types of mint, it can also be grown in a garden, in a balcony or in another garden. Whether you want to use tea for medical purposes, just drink it because you know it very well or you want a plant that attracts pollinators, there are good reasons to grow tea. Fortunately, it's easy enough to grow up.
