Arum Lily Close up

enter image description here

The Arum Lily is endemic to Southern and Central Africa, and is found naturally from Nigeria to South-Africa. It is a genius consisting of eight species. Although the plant is called an Arum Lily, it is neither an Arum or a Lily.

The beautiful flower is actually not a real flower, but is a false flower. The real flowers are arranged on the central column in a spiral, consisting of a lot of very small flowers. The top 7 cm of the central column houses the male flowers and the bottom 1.8 cm houses the female flowers. This can be seen in the photo below.

These are really beautiful flowers that give a nice color to any garden. These days you get various colors of this beautiful flower, including pink, purple and even black. They make excellent cut flowers, which lasts for a long time.

All photos were taken by myself, with my iPhone.

Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed it.

My neighbor, in Oregon's WIllamette Valley, has some of these that are white, with white-speckled leaves. They are really pretty. They seem pretty carefree to grow, too. Your yellow ones would be dramatic in a front-yard garden, for sure!
