Coco Coir (from brick to soil)(from seed to fruit series)

in #gardening3 years ago

Its time to turn the magic brick into soil. The brick makes 15 litres of soil but I only need a fraction of that and don't want to waste. Breaking the brick down a was little harder than first imagined. Tried breaking with a small hammer, only succeeded in getting loose dry soil everywhere. Tried using a knife but the brick was too tough, settled on a pruning saw which made quick work of the brick. Only need enough to fill two small cups.

The brick.

It was fascinating to watching the brick melt almost as soon as the warm water washed over it.

I had to add some more water to get the soil fully hydrated, but I'm very happy with the end results below.

The pictures above don't really do the whole process justice. I now have sufficient growing medium for my purposes from that little piece of rock, and have plenty left over for my future planting projects.

I guess you are planning to plant the apple sprouts in that cup of soil? Looking forward to seeing what happens!

Yes @kenny-crane. I have already planted the seeds and they have sprouted and are showing there first leaves, still very small at the moment but growing bigger by the day. I have been taking pics most everyday, monitoring their progress and will post them soon. Thanks for the upvotes and the interest it is very much appreciated.
