One way we feed our soil and fruit trees. Nutrients and fertigation.

Above you can see a few of the liquid nutrients we are currently using....to feed some of our fruit trees and their soil. All of these are available on amazon. The alaska fish fertilizer is available at most box stores. I LOVE the General Organics and Fox Farms liquid nutrients!!!!!! Both product lines pictured above.

BUT.... there are so many options available. We also use solid forms of these nutrients....like fish meal and kelp meal. In this post however, I'm showing how we feed via....liquid nutrients.....using "FERTIGATION." --see the image below

At our little urban farm....we love the idea of "FERTIGATION!" Injecting nutrients into a site...via liquids and solids....via animals and other forms of nutrients. The image above is from Ben Falk's...Whole System Design website. http://www.wholesystemsdesign.com/resilient-farm-homestead-book/ We LOVE BEN!!! HIGHLY recommend his book! Ben's book: https://www.amazon.com/Resilient-Farm-Homestead-Innovative-Permaculture/dp/1603584447/ref=sr_1_1?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1525024112&sr=8-1&keywords=ben+falk

The fertigation image from Ben's website... captures the idea...of nutrients being injected into a site. We adhere to the belief that the mycelium in the soil...creates a highway...between plants and trees to share these nutrients...forest WIDE!

We don't have any animals on our property....to provide poop for us. We do have tons of worms in the soil...and we also grow worm castings...in bins. So we use the castings....as a base layer for amending our soil..and add azomite rock dust.

IMG_5937.JPG

Below you can see me adding a wheelbarrow full of worm castings...around a nectarine tree that is showing some signs of needing some extra nutrients. We pull back the wood chips around the drip line of the tree...then add the castings.

IMG_5942.JPG

Then...we add a nice amount of azomite on top of the castings....and mix in a bit.

IMG_5961.JPG

Finally, we push the wood chips back on top of the castings and azomite. Then...we add our liquid nutrients in whatever amount we desire into a 5 gallon bucket. We then place this bucket near the amended drip line of the tree....and allow to bucket to fill..and overflow....into the area surrounding the tree. We make sure to place the bucket uphill...so that the nutrients will cascade downhill. FERTIGATION!

For amounts of liquid nutrients to add....and to SEE HOW....to do this....we HIGHLY recommend watching fellow food forester....JAKE MACE'S video on this very process. Liquid nutrients...to feed your fruit trees. EXCELLENT VIDEO!

Cheers and thanks for viewing this post fellow Steemians! Happy growing...and cheers to SPRING!

An amazing description of plants and medicinal plants. Hopefully give inner satisfaction and results that cheer my friend.

thank you my friend @roman-sabil!!!!!!!! it does...truly give me a deep inner satisfaction! no matter how the fruit tastes....i enjoy the process of observing them grow! thanks for you support!!! i really appreciate your upvote and comment roman.

Dear friend you are really a nature lover but I'm quite lazy. Not like you but love them who are nature lover. Your fruit garden looks beautiful. You are such a hard working man, i should learn from you. Thank you my friend.

lol...i doubt you are lazy my friend! but...thank you! i really appreciate your comments! it inspires me to keep sharing! i hope others like you get inspired to plant their own trees and plants...and just get out in nature to enjoy all the life around us daily! cheers my dear friend!

Heck yes to fertigation! I love Ben Falk's apporach and design details, definitely someone to follow?

Seems like you're taking great care of these tree beings. You carry so much care and love for this work, I love to see it. We haven't got into azomite, but keep hearing about it, guess it's time to dive into the research tunnel.

I love the reactions plants have to liquid fertility. I personally love using my dilute urine as a drench on wood shaving mulch on our baby trees. Have you ever used buckets with a few 1/8" holes near the bottom to slowly release liquids? It works great to avoid run off and ensure deep penetration. PLUS Biochar seems like a great option for us too. Time will tell how much of a difference biochar will make, I've heard folks like Mark Sheppard lay out some serious doubts as to it's amazing benefits.

i LOVE you two!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! truly, each comment you leave...fills my heart and brain..with so much JOY!!!!!!!!! i love peeing all around the garden. we all do lol!!!! i'd say almost 100 percent of mine ..hits wood chips around fruit trees. :)) oh geez...i love the idea of the drilled hole bucket!!!!! i shall implement this! on the biochar.....YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!! early on...we scooped truck loads of it...and dumped piles near every quadrant of the food forest. HUGE FAN!!! terra preta!!! i'll check out mark sheppard's theories. ;) i love your brains and hearts!! my favorite spot on steemit...BY FAR....are your pages. thank you for being here!!!!!! so much heck YESSSS! i love the rock dusts...like azomite. plus...we live on volcanic lava bed. mucho crushed black... cinders...and red sand...on top. crazy spot to grow here. having so much FUN!

Fertigation. Never would of thought about dispensing in that way, but really like the idea. Live on a hill top here so everything really runs in a downward direction naturally. I have more reading to catch up with it seems. Haven't been home to check the roots of the perhaps Osha plants growing here. As soon as it dries out a little I'm still headed out to see if they really are Osha. I hope they are. Once again, a great article.

Thank you so much @warpedweaver!!! Yes, check out Ben's book that I linked above to learn more on the topic of fertigation and so much more. Oh...I hope it's osha also!!! I can't wait to see what the roots look like! So many members of that family Umbelliferae. You'll know once you have the roots up...and can look for those other signatures. Please let us know what you find ..when you dig them up. Hey..thanks for stopping in and saying hi...and for your words of appreciation. We appreciate YOU!!!!!
