Propagation Vegetative Plants Part IV # (Ground Layering Technique)
Ground Layering is the propagation of plants obtained by immersing branches or branches into the soil. Branches that will be made in the seedlings are usually long, adjacent to the soil surface, and located some distance from the parent tree.
Ground Layering is often called graft or transplant grass because it is done by subduing the branch of the parent tree to form the soil. Then close it with media. Basically the same way to grafting grafting, which is wrapping parts of the plant with the media to grow the roots. But the way the mound does not require wrapping. This propagation has a success rate of up to 100% because the multiple branches still get food intake from the parent tree.
Plants commonly propagated with Ground Layering are long-branched and pliable plants such as mulberry, strawberries, apples, roses, and azaleas. In addition, also creeping and creeping plants such as pumpkin and pumpkin water.
There are several types of propagation by way of Ground Layering:
1. Tip Layerage Technique
Tip layarage technique is done by planting into the ground all over the end of the branch of the plant. This technique is commonly done to multiply strawberry and mulberry plants.
The way to make a hole as deep as 2-3 cm below the branches that are subdued. Then the branch is pulled down until the end reaches the bottom of the hole, then cover with soil. Usually within 2-3 months of root plants around the ends of the branches and new shoots appear to the soil surface.
This technique is best done at the end of the dry season so that before the rainy season ends the seeds can be separated from the parent tree to be replanted.
This technique produces only one new plant from one branch that is subdued.
2. Common Layerage Technique
Common layerage techniques are done by planting the ends of the branches, but the buds are allowed to surface to the ground. This technique is done to multiply apple and rose plants.
How to make a hole as deep as 10-20 cm under the branches that are subdued. After that the branch is pulled down until the tip reaches the bottom of the hole. In order for the branch not to return to its original position, hold it with a bamboo or curved wire, before it is grounded. The branching part of the plant should be wounded first to stimulate root-growing points.
This technique produces only one new plant from one branch that is subdued.
