Trying to start an interest in gardening with the little ones!

in #gardening6 years ago

This year has been off to a great start with the little ones. Our daughter is 2.5 and our Son will be 4, and they are really becoming quite interesting in the things we are doing. So we have been encouraging and promoting them to take part in some gardening around the yard.

It's something we are quite passionate about. For me it's mostly the vegetable garden and fruit and berry orchard, but for my wife it's her flower gardens.

So when she was potting her annuals, it was a great chance to get the kids involved.

Our Son has actually been talking about gardening for quite a while now and our daughter pretty much loves just doing anything he does, so it was mostly a success getting them involved. Which is really starting to be such a nice change from then they used to try to help out, which was much more of a hindrance.

Of course, they are still goofy sometimes, and prefer wearing there clothes backwards or pretending there garden tools have magical powers...lol.

They were able to make some simple holes in the pots in preparation for mom putting in the flowers, they also helped to line some of the trays with the straw and soil. We also took this opportunity to start a tray of pumpkin seeds before the risk of frost is finally over up here and we can start the vegetable garden.

I'm excited to get their help with the vegetable garden, it is always so much fun to watch everything grow and of course when they grow the veggies they seam much more inclined to eat them...lol

Yes, the word i was searching for while reading this is "catch them young". Its so good to grow your food and a wonderful thing you and your wife instill such values in your kids.

Yeah, I'm hoping it sticks and they continue to see the value in it.

Wow glad to hear that both of the kids are interested..
And also your kids are cute.

Thx man, they are pretty damn awesome. (most of the time...lol).

Our son has been talking about gardening for quite some time and our daughter loves doing everything she does, so it was a success to involve them. What is really starting to be such a good change since then used to be trying to help, which was much more of an obstacle.

This speaks very well of you as people and as parents, our primary duty as parents is to make our children people with well-defined values, that can only be learned at home, respect for plants, nature and animals, are an important step for them to grow up with a feeling of genuine protection, very good work friend

Kinds words and much appreciated, we are just trying our best and trying to set good examples.

I'm a single mother, it's hard work, but it's the best we can do for them, with lots of love, happy week.

Yeah veggies, get them in the ground and then can/freeze some too. Great times with the kids🤘

Yeah, we've never done much canning, but that's on our list to figure out!

That's awesome that your kids are getting involved and they actually want to. Gardening is a great thing for anyone to take up at any age. Thanks for sharing @phelimint

My pleasure, I'll get some more shots when we tackle the vegetable garden!

Thank you for your continued support of SteemSilverGold

Always great to see the little ones excited to be involved in gardening, it lets them get good and dirty too. What kid doesn't want to play in dirt?!?! :)
