Caring For Worms: Adding Bedding (DTube Video)

in #gardening7 years ago (edited)

We made a video as we checked on our hardworking pets, the red wriggler worms. We love these guys, and they're so darn cute.

They are constantly transforming garden scraps into valuable casting or vermicompost. They play an important role in the fertility cycle on the homestead. They needed some TLC, so we shot a video of a simple maintenance routine to keep our dear worms happy.

If you've ever tried to keep worms and had some trouble or always wanted to, but think it may be difficult (it's not, we promise!), check out our video or previous post for more in depth info on caring for worms.

Hahahah local homesteaders torn up for the worms xD I'm very impressed how progressive you guys are in the 2 years you've been on your homestead! Bravo!! I look forward to having a worm compost one of these days. We want to do an aquaponic trout pond in the future and the worms would be tasty fish food, also the chickens love them. ^_^

thank you mzzz @wisewoof! yes ultimately worm food anyway xD hehe!

it's super easy to have one! yessss to your future trout pond... future goal to have little ponds too, but definitely harder than starting with a worm bin :) xo

Thank you for the tip on when to add bedding. Starting a big Vermicompost this year in a old bathtub I pulled out of the woods. I've had a small vermicompost composting bin for the past 2 years but have been using only earthworms. I've been reading lately that that using earthworms could cause some problems. Do you recommend anywhere to get red wigglers online?
