ANOTHER INTERESTING GUEST IN MY GARDEN - WOLF SPIDER!steemCreated with Sketch.

in #gardening6 years ago

I was watering the garden when I spotted this little hunter... So I took a photo, of course :) I played a bit and this is the result...

Interesting and cool looking creature...

I slightly changed this photo above, original looks like this...

SOME FACTS:

This species of spiders (family Lycosidae) do not spin the web. They wait their prey in or near the burrow. This one from the photo hides in that hole on the wall from which these succulents are growing...

I've noticed that he's moving very fast :) When I came closer to capture him, he jumped from the wall and landed on the floor, check him up on the photo below...

Wolf spiders have an unique way of carrying their eggs. The egg sac is attached to their back and the mother carries them around and also hunts like that!

Interesting fact is that no other spider is currently known to carry their babies on their back for any period of time...

A few years ago, in september, I made this photo below, where you can see how this mama spider looks when she has those little ones on her...

It's amazing! And if you accidentally (or not!) touch her, they will all jump from her and start to run in every direction :) We played with this when I was a child :)

And then we would all scream :) Kids, haha... This time I just took some photos, nobody was hurt :) I left my guest alone, so he can hunt in the garden... Hopefully the mosquitos are on the menu today, that would be awesome :)

If you have a garden, check it up, it's possible that you will see the wolf spider hiding somewhere. And a month from now they will start to make babies, so be careful where you're stepping and take your camera :)

Hope you enjoyed our little adventure, have a great day everyone!!!
With LOVE, @mika-ella...

Lol we see a lot of them around here. My son actually found one lurking in a caved-in mole hole this morning.

We used to play with them as kids when we found one with babies. Smash the mom, and then try to smash all the babies. It was impossible.

Now I'm like you. Praying they eat the mosquitoes!

Beautiful creatures, always on the verge of being dangerous for they are unknown to us.

Dangerous only if we mess with them, if not in danger - they don't attack (we people could learn from them:)... Thank you for stopping by and commenting, I really appreciate that!
