Full/Part Shade Tolerant Vegetables, Herbs, and Flowers

in #gardening5 years ago (edited)

Many of you have asked for ideas on what will grow in the shade. I’ve taken time to create a list for you. I hope this helps! There are several reasons one might garden in shade, whether by choice or by environment. Growing certain crops in shade has some advantages. Leafy crops will be more succulent and less likely to turn bitter. Shade will also keep the temperature several degrees cooler allowing for a longer growing period. Some afternoon shade can help protect heat-sensitive plants from full on hot summer sun. Whatever the reason is, you can see below there is a lengthy list of edibles, herbs, and flowers that can grow just fine in part or full shade.

Now, let's talk about hours of sunlight and classifications. Part shade is anywhere from 3-6 hours of sunlight. Full shade is less than 3 hours of sunlight. Here are a list that will tolerate part shade, and some will tolerate full shade.
