It's That Special Time of Year Again!! Step 2steemCreated with Sketch.

This post is the second post in the series of growing my pepper plants for this summer. If you missed the first post about what kind of peppers, what the incubators look like, etc... Click on the link below to get caught up!

The seedlings have grown large enough now that we need to get them out of the incubator and into some nice rich organic soil. All of the trays and containers we use for the seedling came from Apache Seeds in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. They are very reasonably priced and keep their stock of seeds, trays, containers, dirt, and everything else needed available during the winter months. Bonus. Not meant to be a shameless plug for them but I do like going there LOL.

We always start everything with an organic soil booster. You will see it in my prior posts too.

These peppers will go through 2 different sizes of pots as they grow up. We transfer them into the 2"x 2" pots first. We use the 2" x 2" pots as the first step because it lets the pepper develop a large, dense, and healthy root ball. When I do the post for transferring them to the 4" x 4" pots you will see how healthy these roots are. That is in March some time though......

Those little mesh pods that go in the incubators are supposed to be planted into the dirt and will "dissolve" over time. This is what the manufacture says.. That statement is an absolute flat out lie. They will not dissolve and in fact they will choke the roots of your seedling. Saying that, we obviously remove the "dissolving, *cough, *cough" mesh pods.

Here is shot of the progress!!

IMG_0415.JPG

We just kept working at it, swapping between labeling the pots, mixing dirt, and filling trays.

IMG_0419.JPG

The incubators started to become depleted.

IMG_0418.JPG

After a while we had them all transfered!

All of this gardening can make a person hungry! So we made some mashed cauliflower with gralic and cheese.

IMG_0417.JPG

It is nice when you get little surprises in life. When we were making the lunch dish I grabbed out our organic garlic and noticed 10 of them had started sprouting.

IMG_0427.JPG

SO...... it was experiment time. We planted the garlics. Don't know if anyone else has tried this but I will keep ya posted if there is some success.

All in all it was a great day of gardening in the dead of winter.

Our germination rate was pretty good on most of the seeds.

Chocolate Beauty : 5/8
Purple Beauty : 7/8
Anaheim : 8/8
Chinese Giant : 8/8
Cubanelle : 0/8 After the struggle with them last year too, we are not doing cubanelles anymore.
Hungarian Cheese Blend : 8/8
Early Calwonder : 7/8
Jewel Toned : 7/8
Marconi : 6/8
Time Bomb : 0/4 Don't know if I dried these ones good enough....
Serrano : 4/4
Cheyenne : 1/4 Probably my fault drying the seeds..
Chinese 5 Color : 4/4
Pimento : 4/4
Hot Ancho : 4/4

We Decided to try to get 4 more Cheyenne and 4 more time Bombs going just to see if the seeds were good.

Looking good. I can't wait until we are gardening full blown this year! Hope you have much success with your peppers!

Thanks so much. I am counting down the days too!!!

Going to get some Eggplant started this weekend. These are new to me Applegreen and Casper. Great post

Thanks! Hope all goes well with getting those eggplants started this weekend.

That is one thing I have never grown... I haven't really eaten one in a long time either..... Maybe I need to re-acquaint myself with eggplant and see if I have a new take on it. Thanks for the good idea!

My Mom use to make Eggplant pizza

Eggplant as a topping or as a crust? Sounds cool either way!

As a topping. Just finished putting the seeds in the starter tray. Instructions say that it could take up to 3 weeks to sprout.

Awesome work mate I know a lot of time and patience is required in such work.
But the results are worth the wait.

Absolutely worth it!! Thank you!!

Looking good and nice surprise with the garlic. I hope they all do well!

I was very surprised with the garlic too! I hope it works out good too because it should mean that i can grow it year round too.

Great work! These little plants look happy now. Wish you good luck with the second try of Cheyenne and the Bombs!

Thanks! I hope they work too cause i just want to know if my harvested seeds are still good lol. Also doesn't hurt to have a few more hot peppers.
