Great post! I'd like to point out that container gardening makes use of marginal land. Like an old parking lot or road bed. I use containers around the bases of trees (avocado). Roots dont compete and you dont need to dig which will possibly hurt the root structure of wonderful trees. An added bonus is that the nutrients that leach from potted plants go down into the root structure of the tree. No waste!
