Another first time bloomer for me. Every time I see Gymnocalycium buds forming I like this type of cactus more and more. Out of all the cactus buds those must be the prettiest. With the smooth surface and lighter shells they look so elegant.
Gymnocalycium baldianum
Is this a little taste of the colour I have no idea what it is gonna be exactly as I never saw this exact one blooming, but I like what I see :)
It is not a big plant yet and it is still very young one. I am not sure of it will produce offshoots. But I sowed seeds from this one (I received it with a dry seed pod on) and I have probably a hundred little babies growing now.
To show you the size of a baby. It is less than 1 cm across and this is the biggest of the bunch, so it just got his own little pot to grow. It will still take a while, a year... maybe two until it is ready to bloom. Hope it survives till then.
The rest is still in community tray until they grow a bit bigger. See how tiny it is? But already looks like mommy :)

Thank you.
I always wonder how on earth they can extract enough nutrients from sand.

They are that cool :D :D
I give mine some fertilizer twice a year. Sand and rocks have lots of minerals. They feed on that too.
Pretty and cute!
