All the weather changing, lower temperatures, no water make some cacti and succulents so pretty! They will change the colour usually fro their usual green to intense orange, red, brown...
Gymnocalycium Damsii var. tucavocense
Just like this tiny Gymno cactus. I have three little babies around 1 cm in diameter. They grow together in a 5 cm pot, so you can imagine how small they are. In summer and early fall they were growing lovely and dark green. Now that the night temperature is as low as 3 degrees C and they do not receive any water for about a month they turn to this pretty purplish red. They are also smaller now. They normally shrink, shrivel and hide deeper in the pot.
Do not worry, it is perfectly normal. Cacti go dormant in winter time. They do not need any water for 3 or 4 months nor sun. I know people that will hide their babies in dark and cold cellar and forget about them until March. Mine will stay on the balcony and catch some sun, but no drinking for them! I still go have a look at them, how they change and pick those nice wither shades.
I don't think I will see any flowers this year yet. They are still small, but hopefully they will take over the pot and maybe... maybe next year some pink blooms will pop.
