Just one more day and I will see this Dendrobium orchid finally in bloom. The last day of the 3 years of waiting.
There is a long story behind. I got this one in a supermarket on sale, because the flowers started to fade. I do know how they are gonna look like then, but I didn't have a chance to enjoy them for long. The plant looked good - one fat, overfed cane. Quite typical for the store bough ones. I took it home, repoted it, it stopped blooming and started to grow new offshoots. Which is a good sign. But then the offshoots rotted. So I waited... and waited... and it grow another offshoot... and it rotted again. At that point I though I will lose it. For some reason the young ones were just dying. They all grew from the base. Then one day I saw that something starts to grow from the cane higher up... Yay! Another keiki! And not just one... I got 4 of them :)
And this time they did not rot! The grew well, started to produce roots, so I could separate them and pot in their own pots. All of them survived. They grew just one extra cane every year and every year they were getting bigger and bigger. I gave one to my sister, one is looking awesome, but no blooms this year, and two decided to bloom this year! All that took 3 years.
Three years!
That is about how long it takes to grow a full size, blooming dendrobium nobile orchid from a keiki. And it is not just me. This is how it is. I am almost sure the nurseries have a trick to push them to grow faster and they will bloom in their second year. But all those treatments make them go all crazy and disoriented. Then we get them home and they go on strike and takes them ages to adjust.
This is my personal victory and all the wait and caring makes the flowers even more special. It is not just a quick buy. It is years or growing and waiting.
And it all payed off :).
Took those photos today and was so exited to see the buds open I wanted to share it. As soon as the flowers open, I will present the Dendrobium Nobile Komet King in all his glory!

Wow! A beauty unfolding. That would be a great story for those following any of the mindset or business/personal development tags! As with those blooms, the blossoming of our goals takes the time it takes! Too often we sabotage our efforts by forcing the bloom early! I look forward to seeing her in all her glory.
