The long, few weeks wait and constant checking on the buds finaly came to en and. I looked out yesterday morning (I can see them from the kitchen when I have breakfast) and I saw that one bud is way bigger than the rest. Really pushed it in the last few days...
And finally, in the afternoon the very first flower of my cactus opened!
Rebutia Hybrid
As it blooms for me for the first time, I am not even sure how long the flowers will last. Some bloom just for one day, some open and close long. It reopened today again (they close for the night). I am hoping that other buds will catch up and there will be more than one flower open in the same time. Would love to see that.
Just look at that colour! Such an intensive tomato red with little sparkles. The petals are so delicate and soft. A true beauty. And now I can go out and admire two cacti flowers. The other one - Mammillaria is still blooming too. But with her tiny body and even smaller blooms it disappears. This flower in its own is bigger than the whole Mammillaria cactus :P
I am almost tempted to pollinate them and wait for the seeds... and have more cacti!
Would love to cross it with a different colour though. But nothing else of this type is showing signs of flowers yet...

What a lovely flower! Now I really have to buy myself a nice cactus, no more excuses! I truly hope there will be a lot next time I'm at the hypermarket. I want one that is going to give me nice flowers like this one. Any suggestions?
Don't buy columnar one. They usually need years and years to maturity and blooming.
Also, if you go look for one, most likely you will not see any name on it. They are all called "cactus" in supermarkets. It is hard to tell which ones they are and some look alike and they are different specie :) At least to me.
Rebutia (like this one) has lovely flowers. Also Chamaecereus - super easy to grow and even bigger flowers. You can get Echinopsis type, which is very popular in shops - they have HUUUUUUGE flowers, but only bloom for one day. But again... I cannot tell in a shop which one is which :D
Just get whatever you can get. Pick something nice and round. Something you like :) And we will try to ID it.
Just made a screenshot of this comment so i can check it at the hypermarket. Unfortunately that's the case here as well, you don't see the name of the flower, just cactus, which is far from being enough. I'd like a small and round one, if possible, that's why I have to wait so long, usually I see long ones that I don't like. Let's see they are going to display more now that winter is almost over.

Pretty sure you can get Mammillarias. Those grow fast, but have very small flowers (most of the time. There is few species with nice, big blooms too).
And Echinopsis of some sort.
Maybe you could check online shops or ebay. There you can probably get it with a name and google the flowers.
(hehehe after Violets time for cacti :P :D :D)
