First seeds

in #gardening7 years ago

Got the first line of buckets done and I need to start thinking about the first plants go in. It's still winter so I need something cold hardy.

Went for some quick growing greens. Lettuce, iceberg and some cos. I ordered some fabric 'pots' this year to start my seedlings in and provide a support for the coco coir so it doesn't get all mixed up with the pebbles. Cleaning it off at the end of the season is a real chore.

Covered them up and I left them to germinate. It will take a few days before we see the first signs of life.

While I was watering the little rosemary cuttings from a couple of weeks ago I found a little intruder. A sycamore tree seed found it's way on the surface of the soil and sprouted.

I couldn't just kill it and I gave it a little pot of its own. Don't really have a use for a sycamore tree but we'll see how and if it keeps growing.
I removed the seed to help the plant out a little bit.

And two hours later the leaf already started uncurling to try to get some sun light.

Cheers for following along!

I am a bit envious on you about this greenhouse! I’ve just posted some updates about my peppers too! Will keep an eye on your posts about some tips and tricks in hydroponics, although my system is primitive, compared to yours!

Cheers man! I can't really say it was fun building it, I'd be lying, but it certainly was worth it! Your peppers are looking great btw!

I'm enjoying your pictures. It's way too early for me to start anything yet, but I can enjoy what you're doing.

Thank you! I'm pretty sure it's too early for me as well, but getting itchy, hehe. We had another night with subfreezing temps yesterday. And it is snowing now as well... 20180121_122240_HDR.jpg
