Not just any tomato

This is the coolest collection of fruit and vegetable seeds. I bet there are quite a few in here you have never heard of before.

One of my favourite items I sell in my Recycled Gallery shop is a vast collection of heritage seeds. The sort of seeds that have not been genetically tampered with, are open pollinated and organically grown. The lady behind this operation in Nanango (Queensland, Australia) has spent a life time building her collection and offers over three hundred varieties.

Fruit and vegetables in all colours of the rainbow and the most unusual types. You want basil - pick from over fifteen types. Or tomatoes, well do you want Black Russian, Beefsteak, Black Cherry, Brandywine, Cherokee Purple, Evergreen, German Johnson, Golden Sunrise, Green Zebra, Grosse Lisse, Harbinger, Miniature Red Pear, Moneymaker, Mortgage Lifter, Nebraska Wedding, Oxheart Pink, Purple Calabash, Red Pear, Roma, Rouge De Marinade, San Marzano... that list goes on and on.

Oh and there is a beautiful range of dreamy whimsical spring time flowers too.

Over the past few years I have had a crack at growing some of these in my backyard garden. The taste is amazing. I usually forget what I planted and a few months later I have all sorts of wonderful plants popping out delightful edible sensations.

My customers love them too. It is a universally appreciate product and I for one am glad that there are people in this chemical world, keeping seeds in their natural state.

I wish I had a better garden to grow my own veggies. Too sandy soil and too many trees stealing all the water and nutrients. Maybe I should plant cactus 🌵. Lol

olha,bem interessante

That's great that you carry heirloom and traditional seeds in your shop. It's upcycling of a different sort, lol! And the packages and plants are all beautiful. It's neat seeing the little Mouse Melon and Burr Gherkin. They have just started to appear in our US seed catalogs in the past few years. I haven't tried growing either of them yet. Maybe this year!

Thank you. We get severe frosts here in winter and I am still getting used to finding out what exactly I can plant and when.

That's the fun of gardening -- finding out what grows well in our own area and getting in tune with nature's calendar! Happy gardening!

Amazing seeds.... is almost like finding dna in old fossils {grin}. What medium are you growing the plants in the picture with a bush (looks almost like lemon verbena) ..looks like straw???

Hi @themagus. That bush is actually 'pineapple sage'. It seriously smells amazing. The garden bed was set up out the front of my shop as a sort of botanical herb garden by Sugarloaf Permaculture. The bed is layers of organic matter, soil, compost, enriched with rock mineral and mulched with love grass. The bed sat dormant for about four months before planting. Everything in there has grown to gigantic proportions and despite low rainfall is flourishing on its own.

Thanks for the reply.... I know pineapple sage.. it gets a decent red flower on it .. I used to have some in my garden years ago... it is very hardy. Love Grass is a new one for me though.
I will meander over and spend some time on your blog.... sounds interesting.
