Basic drip irrigation for the baby trees
So @pennsif went and created a separate account for his amazing initiative, @adollaraday - go check it out, that's great news!
Our community garden project received three donations via A Dollar A Day already!
First one was for the basic water mainlines we laid out! The second went towards a backpack sprayer and some neem oil + castile soap to avert the caterpillar invasion on our baby trees.
And finally, we got a third donation, which we used to partially fund some basic drip irrigation for the trees. The spring's been super unusual this year, with 70 days of no rain + summer temperatures in April, so that irrigation was really vital for the baby orchard.
Here are some photos from the project we completed.
Each tree was looped by a thin LDPE pipe and a couple of drippers were punched in, with combined flow of 10 liters per hour.
This is the general layout of the future forest garden - the trees were planted in last autumn and we had a very late winter so we lost some to the frost and the remaining are still struggling.
So thank you, @pennsif / @adollaraday and all those donating to this worthy cause!
Next step involves getting another water tank, second hand preferably, as the one we have depletes quickly with more people coming for the weekend and more tasks at hand. Further down the road is building a simple wooden structure to raise those two tanks to about 3 m height so we can gravity feed the system and make it more sustainable. Both of those tasks would be sped up with the help of the Steemit community and the continuous support for our project.
good news for baby orchad! happy to hear that!
I am happy we could help with the A Dollar A Day donations.
It is a shame you are stopping posting regularly. Maybe set up a separate account for the Community Garden project and just post updates on that, maybe even videos in DTube or DLive.

There's not much going on in the community garden project right now - summer is a season where you basically scythe, irrigate and watch the trees grow, while we wait for a Steem price increase so we can buy another water tank :) We're focusing on building project right now. Rest assured that any interesting progress will be shared here! Especially if it gives a chance for another donation from your amazing initiative! Come autumn, we'll have lots of plants to purchase and plant, pathways to from and a zillion other stuff!
