How To Go Bananas With Free Bananas From The Garden
I drove down to Homestead, Miami for a banana tree because the bananas we all buy in the stores are totally different. Store-bought bananas are expected to go extinct within the next decade or two. These bananas are different. They even taste different and are more filling. I have at least 15 banana trees in my back yard now and it all started with one banana tree.
Baby banana trees grow up from the side of existing banana trees, making them multiply almost effortlessly. If you let them grow they'll create a cluster of bananas, but if the cluster gets too big or if you'd like to have bananas in another place too you can cut off the baby banana tree and replant it where ever you want. Then you'll begin creating multiple clusters of banana trees.
Harvesting Bananas
The trick to harvesting bananas is to cut them down as soon as you see one of them start to ripen. If you leave them too long to ripen on the tree bugs and pests will get to them first. They all ripen rather quickly shortly after the first one begins to ripen. So it happens fast!

It takes a while for the trees to produce, and the bananas stay green for a while before they begin ripening. If you don't watch them closely once they're formed well and still green, they could ripen without you knowing it and give bugs and animals and chance to enjoy your bananas before you do.
