While comfrey is an incredibly powerful healing tool - it also has a dark side to it.
It has toxic substances called pyrrolizidine alkaloids that damage the liver and can lead to death. So be careful when using said medicine. :)
Thank you @alchemage. In high concentrations, pyrrolizidine alkaloids can cause damage. We consume dilute teas made from the leaves with no ill effects, but more frequently we use it for topical applications.
Personally, I would suggest exactly what you are doing - occasional decant if necessary, but poultices preferred.
Yes...Well ideally someone is not getting hurt so often that they need this on any more than a rare occasion.
