Last summer I was impressed by the taste of oxheart tomatoes I bought from my favorite stand at Leipzig weekly market. The dense meat, tomato tomato taste, smooth texture ... everything was wonderful. Moreover thanks to the stand and the market they were perfectly ripe, which cannot be happen at supermarkets.

Anyway I fall in love with the tomatoes. That means I keep seeds and grow my own. Here are photos from last year:

I started it from the seeds in February, which turned out too early. I had so many tomatoes indoor for long this spring ;) I'll sew tomato seeds in mid to late March next year.

I took them outside in the end of May. It looked they grow finely ... until I found few strange flowers last week. I doubted the tomatoes were F1 with male sterility. I didn't have any doubt as I regard oxheart tomato as heirloom.

But but but! Excuse me for doubting to the farmer and the plant, it seems fine. I found regular flower on the plant after it dropped the strange flowers as shown in the photo on the top of this post.

I was almost pulling out the oxheart tomato plants in 5-6 pots. Excuse me again ...

I'll continue my experiment to grow my own oxheart tomatoes. Next year I may buy plants from the stand as I found they generously sell seedlings of the veggies they sell including the oxheart ;) I have some rare tomatoes to try and definitely I lack space.

去年マーケットで買った牛の心臓トマトのあまりのおいしさに感動して種をとっておきました。2月始めにもりもりまいて育てています。

・・・が、先々週末事件が w おかしな形の花をみつけて、もしやF1で雄性不稔！！！？？と疑心暗鬼になっていました。牛の心臓はエアルームの代表種でここまで疑いもしませんでした。

でもでも、1週間観察していたら普通の花が咲きました。お恥ずかしながら勢い余って引っこ抜いてオクラでも植え替えちゃおうかと考えていたところで、マーケットのスタンドのおじさんごめんなさい、トマトごめんなさい。

そんなこんなで私の牛の心臓トマトチャレンジは続くことになりました。着果することを願ってまた日々お世話を続けます。
