Bye Bye BerriessteemCreated with Sketch.

Berry season is over for this year, even though you can still find some here and there, but most if not all blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, e.t.c, are now gone from the bushes.

This hear, for the first time ever, I got to harvest some of my own! Ironically, this year wasn't really that great for berries - with the crazy weather we had this summer. All the plants were just a little confused - fruiting early, drying and shrivelling up in the semi-drought. I did, however, mange to harvest enough for at least one meal :)

Don't be too impressed, I cheated. I actually bought the plants already growing from the garden centre, but still I had planted them by the time most of the berries came out :)

I'm now looking forward to next year! I have quite a few plants so hopefully I should get more berries next season. I think they also multiply, so as the years go on, if I'm still living here, then I should be giving some berries away :)

Talking of giving berries away, I had people over from the countryside this summer and they came bearing gifts. They have land so are able to grown many things including grapes. They also have an orchard so right about now they're probably bitting into the most delicious apples and pears.

I say this a lot, but "you haven't tasted fruits if you've never eaten them directly from the plant". The minute you pluck them, they begin to decline in taste (and everything), so if days or weeks have passed by since then, you can imagine what you've missed out on.

In our present age, we don't really wait for fruits to be in season anymore. We just ship them across the equator from the other side of the earth. Alternatively, we just freeze them (which is actually the better option I think) to be consumed off season. Most of us don't even every think why we have all this food that don't grow on the land here.

Another funny thing I always wonder about is the naming of these fruits. Like why aren't aren't raspberries redberries? And why are blueberries black and blackberries blue? 🤷‍♂️

Do you grow anything (legal) in your space - garden, kitchen, greenhouse? I know @steevc does.

we just came back from our hike, we expected to collect some last blackberries, but no luck, just a handful... I missed most of it and I love red fruits and berries, snif

The yield wasn't as good this year across the board :/

Here they were indeed scarce and unusually small

Oh ya here berries are already gone.. :(
