How to Keep Your Green Thumb During the Winter

in #garden7 years ago

The winter chill has sent in and with it often comes a sense of melancholy for dedicated gardeners. Instead of longing for the warmth of spring to tend your garden, discover ways to keep your hobby alive during the coldest months of the year.

Get Rid of Junk

When the snow melts, take those couple of days to examine your outdoor spaces. Get rid of the Christmas tree from the holidays and toss out deflated toys from the end of summer. Eliminating stray trash gives you a clean slate for March and April.

Dispose of Limbs and Debris

During winter storms, tree branches and limbs tend to scatter the ground. Pick them up and dispose of them so your yard stays as neat as possible.

Add Some Green

If you are truly missing the green hues of spring, it's easy to add a dash of green to your space. Put out a potted evergreen to bring some life to your porch, deck, or entranceway. Find out about replanting it when the warm weather returns.

Plant Seedlings

If you have a sunny windowsill, you have a great spot to start planting seedlings or the spring. This will give you a head start on your herb or vegetable gardens.

Consult with a Pro

The winter is a perfect time to plot out an updated landscaping design with a pro. Make plans for any changes or updates so you are ready to get started as soon as the warm weather arrives.
