Digging holes and trenches

With a few dozen Asparagus roots and some bushes on the way I had alot of soil to move. Right away they may not offer much but I know plants are long term investment. And I will be rewarded by the fruits of my labor quite literally.

Part of that is giving the roots enough room to grow. Around where I live we have hard red clay in our soil. So if I can help by giving the roots some room they should grow quicker and be successful.

The holes will be filled with Evergreen Huckleberry plants. They will provide me with edible berries. Not sure how long it will take to form them. Like I said it's a long term investment.

The trenches will be filled with a about thirty Asparagas plants. Some Purple passion, Mary Washington and Jersey Giant. I back filled the trenches and holes with hardwood mulch. It will be a few weeks to a month before I get all of those plants. So I plan on letting the rain make a compost tea like substance in the holes and trenches to add nutrients to the dirt underneath.

I also planted five of the Potatoes with eyes forming. I think theres a chance they will survive at this point and figured I could get a jump on the season.

They were some Potatoes laying on the back of the storage shelf and formed eyes before I could get to them. Hoping they make good starter spuds for this spring.
